Earlier this week, Nicole Phelps happily shared that she and Olympian Michael Phelps are going to have another baby! In an interview with TODAY, she talked about their fourth baby, including telling everyone the baby’s gender and chatting about possible names.
Michael and Nicole have three boys already, named Boomer, Beckett, and Maverick. Nicole said, “I would have loved to have a daughter for Michael so he could have that special father-daughter bond like I had growing up. But I really believe you get what you’re meant to have.”
She also said, “I’m really looking forward to having another boy.” Some people had thoughts about the baby’s gender, but Nicole didn’t let it bother her too much. She said, “Sometimes it’s tough when people say, ‘Oh, you need a girl.’ I’m like, ‘No, I really don’t.'”

Now, when it comes to picking a name for baby boy #4, their sons really like the name Drifter. Nicole said, “They really love the name Drifter. The funny thing is, everyone jokes that the baby’s name will be Drifter.” She also added, “The best part is how genuinely excited the boys are to meet their new brother. Having four boys will be wild, but it’ll be wonderful.”
When Nicole found out she was going to have another baby, it took her a little while to fully understand. She remembered, “After I took the test, I came out of the bathroom and Michael asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ He said I looked really surprised. He was really, really happy. Michael has been excited right from the beginning.”
She also talked about how she thought about the news. “Listen, I’m a mom and I know how much work it takes. I personally believe in giving up two years of my life to focus on this new baby. But we’re so thrilled. I don’t even want to call him a surprise because he is so wanted. He’s like a wonderful bonus we didn’t know we needed.”
